One Story. One Lesson. One Better Week.
The other night I was sitting in the hot tub on my deck.
The sun was disappearing behind the lake while, almost at the same time, the full moon quietly climbed into the sky.
It’s one of my favorite places in the world.
The warm water eases my sore knees from pickleball. The quiet gives me room to think. Some nights I watch the stars. Other nights I simply sit there grateful for another day.
I pulled out my phone and took a picture.
Then I texted it to my son, Max.
Along with the picture I sent a line from a Grateful Dead song that has always stayed with me:
“Darkness shrugs and bids the day goodbye.”
A minute later my phone buzzed.
“Beautiful.”
That was it.
No long conversation.
No life lesson.
Just two people sharing the same moment from miles apart.
As I sat there, I realized something.
We spend so much of our lives chasing the next achievement that we sometimes forget to share the moments that make life worth living.
A phone call.
A favorite quote.
A sunset.
A picture of the moon.
A conversation after work.
None of those moments seem especially significant.
But over time, they become the memories people carry with them.
I’ve learned that relationships aren’t built through grand gestures.
They’re built through hundreds of small ones.
A thoughtful text.
A quick check-in.
A shared laugh.
A reminder that someone crossed your mind today.
Whether you’re leading a company, building a sales team, or raising a family, the principle is the same.
The little things aren’t little.
They’re the foundation.
This Week’s Challenge
Who in your life would appreciate hearing from you today?
Don’t overthink it.
Send the text.
Make the call.
Share the photo.
You might brighten their day more than you realize.
