One Story. One Lesson. One Better Week.
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to say…
“I’ll do it someday.”
I’ll call them someday.
I’ll write the book someday.
I’ll get back into shape someday.
I’ll take that trip someday.
I’ll tell them how much they mean to me… someday.
The funny thing is…
“Someday” never seems to show up on the calendar.
I’ve been guilty of this more times than I care to admit.
In fact, a few years ago, I started thinking about all the things I’d been putting off.
- Some were small.
- Some were important.
Some had been sitting in the back of my mind for years.
Then I asked myself a question that made me uncomfortable.
“If not now… when?”
That question has stayed with me ever since.
Maybe it’s because I’m getting older.
Maybe it’s because of everything I’ve gone through physically the past couple of years.
Or maybe it’s because becoming a father changes the way you think about time.
Whatever the reason, I’ve become much more aware that time is our only truly non-renewable resource.
Money comes and goes.
Opportunities come and go.
Energy goes up and down.
But none of us gets today back.
Years ago, Darren Hardy said something that stuck with me.
Small decisions, made consistently over time, shape our lives.
I’ve found that’s just as true for the things we delay as it is for the things we do.
Every day we postpone an important conversation…
Every day we wait to start…
Every day we tell ourselves “next week”…
We’re making a decision.
It’s just not always the decision we think we’re making.
As many of you know, one of my favorite sayings is:
Success leaves clues.
Here’s one I’ve noticed.
The people I admire don’t necessarily move faster than everyone else.
They simply don’t wait for perfect.
They make the call.
They write the note.
They apologize.
They forgive.
They start before they feel completely ready.
Looking back on my own life, very few of my biggest opportunities came because everything lined up perfectly.
Most happened because I decided to begin before I had all the answers.
And I’m grateful I did.
This Week’s Thank Goodness It’s Monday Challenge
What’s one thing you’ve been putting off?
- One phone call.
- One conversation.
- One goal.
- One first step.
Don’t wait until Monday.
Don’t wait until next month.
Don’t wait until next year.
Do one thing today that your future self will thank you for.
Sometimes momentum begins with a single action.
Until next Monday…
- Keep learning.
- Keep growing.
- Keep beginning.
Because “someday” isn’t a day on the calendar.
Today is.
And remember…
