One Story. One Lesson. One Better Week.
People often tell me I’ve been lucky.
They’re right.
Just not in the way they think.
When I look back over my life, I don’t see a series of lucky breaks.
I see a series of lucky people.
Someone who believed in me before I believed in myself.
Someone who introduced me to the right person.
Someone who gave me a chance I probably hadn’t earned yet.
Someone who said, “I think you’d be good at this.”
I’ve started calling that…
Who Luck.
The older I get, the more convinced I am that our lives change because of people, not because of plans.
When I was younger, I thought success meant having all the answers.
Now I think success is often about paying attention to who’s walking beside you.
I can still remember the people who changed my direction.
Some were mentors.
Some were bosses.
Some became lifelong friends.
Some probably have no idea the impact they had on me.
A conversation over lunch.
A phone call.
An introduction.
A little encouragement at exactly the right moment.
Those moments changed everything.
When I worked with Tony Robbins, people would often ask me what it was like.
The truth is, yes, I learned a tremendous amount from Tony.
But one of the greatest gifts wasn’t just what he taught me.
It was who I met because of him.
One introduction led to another.
One relationship opened the next door.
Life started to look less like a ladder…… and more like a web.
Every connection mattered.
That’s happened over and over throughout my career.
Every time I’ve taken a new role, I can usually trace it back to one person.
Not a job posting.
Not a résumé.
A relationship.
That’s one reason recruiting has never felt like selling to me.
It’s never been about convincing someone to come work somewhere.
It’s about getting to know people.
Learning what matters to them.
Helping when I can.
Then trusting that, somewhere down the road, life has a funny way of bringing your paths together again.
Sometimes years later.
I’ve also learned something else.
Who Luck isn’t just about the people who help us.
It’s about becoming that person for someone else.
One of the greatest compliments I’ve ever received is when someone tells me,
“Peter, you changed my life.”
The funny thing is…
Most of the time, I didn’t even realize I was doing anything extraordinary.
I simply made a phone call.
Made an introduction.
Encouraged them when they needed it.
Believed in them before they believed in themselves.
That’s how Who Luck works.
Someone did it for me.
Now I get to do it for someone else.
Maybe that’s the whole point.
This Week’s Thank Goodness It’s Monday Challenge
Take a few minutes today and think about the people who changed the direction of your life.
Not the famous ones.
The real ones.
The teacher.
The coach.
The neighbor.
The friend.
The boss who took a chance on you.
Now do one more thing.
Reach out to one of them.
Tell them what they meant to you.
They may have no idea the difference they made.
And if someone comes to mind who’s just getting started…
Be their “Who.”
You never know how far one encouraging conversation can travel.

Honor them.
Thank them.
And whenever you can…
Become one of them for someone else.
Because the greatest legacy we leave isn’t what we accomplish.
It’s who we help become who they were meant to be.
